We have a fantastic opportunity to join our 14-16 Provision as a Student Safety & Wellbeing Officer.

 

The successful candidate will work with learners in Year 10 and Year 11 who are accessing alternative education.  Learners will range in abilities and the successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the range of skills to effectively engage these young people.  Learners accessing the provision often have additional needs, some of which are diagnosed and learners have an EHCP.  The provision predominantly caters for learners who have SEMH/EBD/ASD needs.

 

This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide a first point of contact for staff and students with safeguarding, safety and wellbeing concerns
  • Support children at risk of harm
  • To make appropriate referrals to statutory bodies and other internal and external services based on assessed needs and risk.
  • To develop safety plans for children at ongoing risk of harm.
  • To implement best practices in relation to Safeguarding, Prevent and emotional well-being.
  • Support the welfare of students in association with the core safeguarding team. Follow-up incidents. Maintain detailed records including SchoolPod. Support sanctions where appropriate. Communicate with parents/carers.
  • To attend meetings with parents, multi-agency partners including Social Care and Early Help and College staff including, TAF, CIN meetings, CiC meetings, PEP meetings and all meetings deemed appropriate to the well-being of the students in the provision.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that the College safeguarding/child protection policy is adhered to and concerns are raised per the policy.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports including confidential items, social care and medical information with and for relevant partner agencies.
  • Make arrangements for admission and leavers, including the transfer of documentation, in liaison with your line manager(s).
  • Effectively use recognised systems of student information recording and retrieval including SchoolPod/Intuition.
  • Maintenance of accurate, objective and swiftly timed reports for College managers and multiagency partners.

Education & Training

  • Level 2 Safeguarding Qualification.
  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • A Teaching or Youth Work Qualification is desirable but not essential

Experience

  • Successful experience working with young people on a 1:1 and group basis to achieve their goals (in education, youth work or a community setting)
  • Proven experience of working with parents/carers of young people
  • Experience in supporting young people and/or vulnerable adults at risk of harm
  • Experience working in partnership with external agencies, for example, Children’s Services, Social Services or the Police
  • Experience in agreeing support plans with individuals
