We have a number of variable contracts for Intervention, Tutorial & Pastoral Officers to join our Progression to Learning and Work Department.

As an Intervention, Tutorial & Pastoral Officer, you will support our students in gaining a qualification and developing their skills in a calm, friendly environment by ensuring our Positive Behaviour policies are applied.

 

This is a term-time role working up to 37 hours per week,  38 weeks per year.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • To deliver the college's mandatory tutorial schedule to allocated groups
  • To ensure Navigate is up to date with students' tutorial, enrichment and work experience data
  • To liaise with course tutors to undertake the student progress reviews and ensure departmental compliance with SPR targets.
  • To ensure departmental compliance with student survey completion and learner voice
  • Ensure the complexities of our PLW and wider department students are supported and that associated policies and statutory guidance are adhered to and understood across all areas of responsibility.
  • To liaise with tutors to ensure students are meeting expected attendance targets.
  • To implement intervention strategies to improve attendance for individuals and the department as a whole.
  • Support the application of the provisions of the Positive Behaviour policy.
  • Minimise disruption to learning and teaching by ensuring high expectations and standards regarding compliant behaviour and behaviour for learning, in line with the provisions of the Positive Behaviour Policy. Do so through liaison with teachers, support staff and managers.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely recording of behaviour incidents and interventions.
  • Ensure students are punctual for lessons and move safely around the building.
  • To have an overview of the students’ punctuality and attendance, ensuring parents/carers and partner schools/organisations are informed and involved.
  • Undertake proactive and reactive meetings with students (and their teachers and parents/carers where relevant) related to addressing issues of behaviour and provision standards.
  • Support the tutors by both supporting and disciplining students as and when appropriate.
  • Liaison with SEND Advisors and Student Safety and Welfare Officers to monitor patterns of negative behaviour and any external/support factors impacting behaviour.

Education & Training

  • A minimum of a full level 3 qualification
  • GCSE A*- C or nationally recognised level 2 qualification in Maths and English or equivalent. (e.g. CSE 1, O Level A – C) Or prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale

 

Experience

  • Experience with the complexities of pre-16 education, in particular as it relates to alternative provision.
  • Experience working with 16-18 students on a 1:1 and group basis to achieve their career goals (in education, youth work or a community setting)
  • Experience working with parents/carers of children and young people
  • Experience working with challenging young people to improve behaviour and attitude to learning.
