The Academic Intervention Officer will play a crucial role in supporting learners aged 14-16 who are not making expected academic progress. The primary focus will be on implementing targeted interventions to improve academic outcomes and ensure that all learners have the opportunity to succeed.

 

A key focus of this role is to provide individual support via one-to-one and small group intervention meetings. One outcome of the intervention activity will be an increase in student achievement and positive destinations for the students this post holder works with.

 

This is a term-time role working 37 hours per week, 38 weeks per year.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Review half-term progress reviews to identify learners who are not meeting academic expectations
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to develop individualised intervention plans
  • Provide SMART targets to support the learner achievement
  • Deliver targeted academic interventions, including 1:1 tutoring, small group sessions and in-class support
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support the learners learning and well-being
  • Contribute to student progression and career plans
  • Manage and co-ordinate the supervision of learners who are not working to a normal timetable.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress against action plans through observation and planned recording and to provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required.
  • Undertake administrative tasks, manage, and maintain record systems and processes, including the use of Schoolpod.
  • Provide initial classroom supervision in the short term/unplanned absence of a qualified teacher.

Education & Training

  • GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification (Personal Tutoring) or a willingness to achieve within an agreed timescale

Experience

  • Proven experience of accurately and timely assessing in the workplace/classroom
  • Experience of working with candidates with a wide range of abilities
  • Ability to engage and motivate candidates
  • Experience of working within a customer focused environment
