We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our friendly, customer-focussed IT and Audio Visual department.
As our Network Engineer, you'll lead on keeping the College network secure, stable and fit for the future.
Responsibilities include:
Wired & wireless network design, deployment and management, including switching, routing and firewalling
IP addressing and name resolution
Inter-site connectivity, working with external providers
Server room infrastructure, working with our Estates team
Creating & maintaining diagrams and documentation, for business continuity and supportability
Compliance & best practice e.g. DR/BC, CE+, CIS Benchmarks, developing and applying policies & procedures, supporting audits
Supporting network-related projects and providing 3rd-line technical support

Education & Training
Educated to degree level in an IT-related subject or equivalent relevant experience
GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale
GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English, or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability, and then, if appointed, achieve within an agreed timescale
Experience
Experience of oversight / management of:
Network design
IP address schemas, DHCP scope management, DNS
Enterprise firewalls - configuration / management / policies (Preferably Fortigate)
Wired networking inc.: patching, VLANs, ACLs, routing, switching (edge & core) (Preferably Cisco)
Wireless networking (Preferably Aruba)
Inter-site connectivity
Fibre runs & patching
Server room: UPS sizing, management / monitoring, environmental monitoring
Web filtering (Preferably Smoothwall)
Experience of working in a large-scale IT environment (5,000+ users)
Understanding of and experience complying with security best practice and regulatory standards, e.g. GDPR, Cyber Essentials Plus, CIS Benchmarks
Support / maintenance and software licence management experience
Experience producing & maintaining documentation, diagrams, change logs
Experience contributing to the creation, updating and testing of IT disaster recovery policies & procedures
Experience producing performance / KPI reports, e.g. uptime
